Swedish translation of a German play anonymously penned by Karl Boromaeus Alexander Sessa (1786-1813), a district physician in Frankfurt-on-the-Oder. His crude anti-Semitic dramas presented Jewish characters in the most vulgar way, all driven by the lowest mercenary motives and speaking a ridiculous, stilted and broken German. The present play was first presented in Breslau in 1813 to immediate popular reception, although it was banned in Berlin due to liberal sentiment. It is written in a fake “Yiddish-German” that makes fun of the Jews and their language. This Swedish edition retains this spoof jargon. The hand-colored frontispiece, featuring the principal characters of the play, appears only in this Swedish edition.
