Bedersi (after Beziers, Provence) was a rationalist philosopher in the Maimonidean tradition. Although best known for his classic Bechinoth Olam, he authored commentaries to various Midrashim, of which our work offers but a smattering. Recently, Prof. Marc Saperstein has published additional passages from Bedersi's commentaries to Midrashim. See M. Saperstein, "Jedaiah Bedershi's Commentary on the Midrashim," in: WCJS, 8:3 (1982), pp. 59-65; idem, "Selected Passages from Yedaiah Bedersi's Commentary on the Midrashim," in: Studies in Medieval Jewish History and Literature, 2 (1984), pp. 423-440; EJ, Vol. IX, cols. 1308-9
