Uncommon to find an 18th century scholarly work prepared by a woman - let alone, a hebrew text Anna Maria van Schurman (Schuurman) (1607-1678), Flemish child prodigy and female firebrand, celebrated for her knowledge of languages, and biblical and classical philology. She became known as the “Star of Utrecht,” a city renowned for its learning. An “opusculum” or “opuscule” is defined as a minor literary composition. Prefaced by recommendation in form of laudatory poem by noted Christian Hebraist Johannes Leusden.
