Sofia: Commissariat for Jewish Affairs 1945

Est: $300 - $500
While refraining from deporting Jews from Bulgaria proper, the Bulgarian regime had no qualms deporting the Jews of its occupied territories. Most of the 11,000 Jews that had lived in Macedonia, Thrace and Pirot were deported to and murdered in Treblinka by March 1943. Nathan Greenberg (d. 1988), was appointed to the previously antagonistic Bulgarian Commissariat for Jewish Affairs (Komisarstvo za Evreiskite Vaprosi) following the communist coup d'état in September 1944. Greenberg used his position to document the archives relating to the deportation of Jews from Bulgarian-occupied lands, resulting in the present work.
