Son of R. Yeshaya Meshulam Zushye (1814–1881) and grandson of R. Aharon of Chernobyl (1784–1871), R. Shlomo Benzion was orphaned aged eleven and appointed Admor upon his Bar Mitzvah. Following the First World War he emigrated to the United States but returned to Russia due to his distaste of the materialism he perceived to be rampant in America. His son, R. Aharon, married the daughter of R. Gedalia Moshe of Zvhil, and his son-in-law was R. Yochanan, Admor of Rachmastrivka.
