Jeu De L’Histoire Sainte Depuis la Naissance de Moise jusqu’a sa Mort (Game of Sacred History: From the Birth of Moses to his Death).

(BOARD GAME).

Paris, 1825

French. Rule in center of board.

Charming board game depicting the life of the Prophet Moses from childhood in Pharaoh’s palace to leading the Israelites through the desert, in 63 lavish engravings. Includes extra-Biblical material, such as Moses’ usage of storks in the battle for Kush. With board games becoming increasingly popular in post-Enlightenment Europe, clerics and pietists sought to harness this enthusiasm to increase knowledge in traditional religious fields, resulting in the Biblical board game.
