summary

R. Mordechai Ze’ev ben Yitzchak Aharon Segal Ettinger (1804-63) was a Galician rabbi, author of the responsa Ma’amar Mordechai. He also collaborated with his brother-in-law, R. Yosef Shaul Nathanson, on numerous works, including Mefarshei Hayam, Gilyon HaShas and Ner Ma’aravi to the Jerusalem Talmud (including the Mesoreth HaShas, Torah Ohr and Ner Mishpat Ein Mitzvah), and the Magen Giborim to Orach Chaim. Their prolific collaboration came to an end as a result of competition for the rabbinate position in Lvov, as well as fiercely opposing views on the machine Matzah controversy commencing in 1859.
