summary

The English philo-Semite, James Finn served as British consul in Jerusalem from 1845 to 1862. He greatly assisted the Jews and often protected them from the Ottoman authorites. In this letter, the Jewish Community of Hebron turns to Finn to adjudicate its dispute; a clear indication of the high regard Finn received from the Jewish settlement in Hebron.
