summary

ELEGANTLY BOUND PLANTIN BIBLE Plantin's intention was to present the Bible “in the original tongues.” In addition to the Old Testament in Hebrew, with the addition of the New Testament in Greek, he printed about the same time, a Syriac version of the New Testament in Hebrew letters. As Plantin used “the same paper, the same size of type, of page, and of printed surface, the same typographic arrangement,” G.J. Ormann makes the reasonable assumption that these editions were published simultaneously or successively. See Mehlman, nos. 1899 and 31
I: pp. 389. II: pp. 207. Stained. Contemporary blind-tooled calf with elegant floral motifs, rebacked, a.e.g. 8vo
