summary
An uncommon defense of the Chassidic Movement by a Maskil. Roundly criticized by the author’s intellectual peers, the work nonetheless sparked a re-evaluation of Chassidism by the Haskallah Movement from both a romanticized and historical perspective. See Gloria Wiederkehr-Pollack, Eliezer Zweifel and the Intellectual Defense of Hasidism (1995).
