summary

Samuel Bochart (1599-1667), was a French Protestant biblical scholar whose Geographia Sacra seu Phaleg et Canaan exerted a profound influence on 17th-century Biblical exegesis. The map depicts the dispersion of the nations following the confusion of languages at the Tower of Babel. The various locations into which the different nations descended from the sons of Noah are shown on the map, with Hebrew and Latin place names. From the Near East, humanity spread to inhabit the entire globe.
