summary
The Tractatus is the first European work of Bible criticism. Due to its frontal attack on revealed religion, it was universally banned, earning for its author great notoriety. The second work was for many years erroneously atttributed to Spinoza, when it fact it was written by a prominent member of his circle. It argues that the Bible is in many places doubtful and that only through philosophical reasoning can it be interpreted
Lightly browned. Modern calf, gilt. 8vo
