summary
The Jews and the Mosaic Law was an outgrowth of Isaac Leeser’s defense of Judaism that had appeared in the American press. The boldness of Christian missionaries in America was of frequent concern to Leeser and was duly reflected in his writings. It was due to the positive impression made by the careful reasoning of Leeser’s articulations, that he was called to occupy the pulpit of Philadelphia’s Mikveh Israel - the base from which he established himself as leader of traditional Judaism in America.
