summary

Deutz, on the right bank of the Rhine, an independent town until 1888, was eventually incorporated into the city of Cologne. In 1784, the old synagogue of Deutz (built in the earrly eighteenth century) was destroyed by flood. It was subsequently rebuilt in 1786 and remained in use until 1914. The following year a new synagogue was erected by the municipality of Cologne. See EJ, Vol. V, col. 1597
