summary

Important Jewish-Christian polemical texts. See J. Rosenthal, Anti-Christian Polemics from Its Beginnings to the End of the 18th Century, Aresheth II, pp.142-146; Carmilly-Weinberger, pp.186-87; EJ XII, cols. 499-502 ---------------------------------- USE BELOW FOR ANOTHER TIME (EDITED OUT) Following the biblical order, Muelhausen refutes the Christian interpretations of the Bible and the doctrines derived from them, and in so doing, incidentally provides many exegetic insights. His method is to expose the Christian lack of understanding of Hebrew sources with their linguistic and contextual associations and to ridicule aspects of the Christian religion. The final two chapters discuss his interesting, important debate with “The apostate called Peter” (pp. 191-195) and Teshuvoth Rada”k la-Notzrim [Responses of R. David Kimchi to the Christians] (pp. 196-200. In a fine play on words he refers to the apostate as “Peter Chamor”, the first born of the donkey (see top of p. 193). For the fullest, in depth treatment of Muelhausen, see Judah (Even Shmuel) Kaufman, R. Yom Tov Lipmann Muelhausen, N.Y. 1927 pp. 19 et al contains an analysis of his debate with the apostate called Peter whose original name was Pesach
