summary

Herzl informs his correspondant; “In the meantime great events have occurred. But be prepared, for the time being carry on with the things that we have already begun to do.” The “great events” to which Herzl refers, is no doubt the publication of his fundemental thesis, Der Judenstaat, that first appeared in the Summer of 1896 to wide-ranging, but certainly vocal, opinion. An intriguing letter written at a defining moment of Herzl’s life
