summary
“The most brillant cover designed by Tchaikov”.
A striking cover design of Revolutionary ideas. On the right are factories and a railway with fluttering red flags, in contrast to the pastoral scene with trees in the lower right corner. In the center, a naked man holds a red banner aloft in which relects his face and shows two people, one in a theatrical gesture of defiance. On the left, two girls in green whisper on a balcony. The letters of the title are strking- symbolically beginning and ending with red. “The combination of colors and theatrical effects is striking...[the cover design] has the challenging elemnt of a dramatic opening.” See Ch. Abramsky, “Yiddish Book Illustrations in Russia: 1916-1923” in Israel Museum Catalogue, Tradition and Revolution, p. 68
pp. 204. Original cloth-backed color pictorial printed boards, small tear to lower corner, slightly affecting design. Lg. 8vo
