summary
Rashi’s commentary is an ideal example of the French school of exegetes. In it, there is a harmony between the two methods, the Derash and the Peshat. Rashi used many Agadic interpretations and knew the importance of the meaning of single words for the understanding of the verse and therefore endevored to explain each word where necessary, giving its grammatical derivation. As a teacher, he knew the pedagogic value of similes and examples which bring out the meaning more clearly and used them profusely. See: M. Waxman, vol. I, pp. 190-3.
ff. 124. Stained in places, neat marginal repairs to some leaves affecting a few letters in places, scattered notations in an Italian hand. Recent blind-tooled auburn gross-grain morocco, spine in compartments, slip-case. Sm. 4to
