summary

THE FIRST HEBREW BOOK PRINTED IN OFFENBACH. Attributed to the Spanish or Provencal 15th century Hebrew poet, who is sometimes identified with Mattathias ha’Yitzharti, the narrative, writen in rhymed prose treats the problems of old age, the suffering of the righteous ad the prosperity of the wicked. In it, the author repents the sins of his youth and describes his experiences so that his tale might serve as a warning. He concludes by urging complete trust and confidence in the justice of God. See Waxman, vol. II p. 290.
