summary

A native of Spain, Ibn Shuaib lived in Saragossa shortly before the expulsion in 1492. His rebukes of the Marranos, resulted in bringing many of them back to openly proclaim their Jewish faith. Ibn Shuaib’s collected sermons reveal both an extensive knowledge of both rabbinic as well as a broader general culture. The present work also provides an interesting description of the organization of sacred societies for communal needs in Saragossa. See EJ, IIX col.1201.
