summary

Unrecorded Hagadah issued for the Eclaireurs Israélites de France - The Jewish Boy Scouts of France. The village of Lautrec is in the Tarn-et-Garonne Department of South-Western France. The camp was directed by Rabbi Léo Cohn who ran it in “neo-Chassidic spirit, seeking to relive the ancient rhythm of the Biblical agricultural cycle, of which Passover was a high-point.” Upon the invasion of the Free Zone in 1942, the camp was disbanded, and many of its charges joined the French Resistance. Léo Cohn was arrested at Toulouse Railway Station in May 1944, attempting to smuggle children into Spain and onto Palestine. He died in deportation. See A. Michel, Les Eclaireurs Israélites de France pendant la Seconde Guerre Mondiale (1984) Three other handwritten and mimeographed Hagadahs from Vichy France are discussed by Y. Yerushalmi in Hagadah and History, pl.158-62.
Lightly stained, lower corner chewed. Original pictorial wrappers. 8vo
