summary

Second edition of prayerbook containing festival and occasional prayers according to the rite of the Jews of Cochin and Cranganore, with many additional prayers (see also, previous Lot). Intriguingly, the present edition omits the ritual for conversion that appears in the first edition (despite the title page highlighting its presence). It is possible that the patron of this edition Ezekiel Rahabi (see next lot) felt an antipathy to the conversionist stance of the Cochin Jews and so re-issued their prayer-book with the controversial passages expunged
ff.(1),100. 19th-century roan, rubbed. Sm. 8vo
