summary

The appearance of this heretical text (complete with fraudulent approbations from prominent Rabbinic leaders) resulted in a fierce assault upon Chayun - the most militant champion of the false Messiah, Shabbetai Tzvi. In order to prevent a possible revival of the Shabbatean heresy most copies of this work were destroyed. See E. Carlebach, The Pursuit of Heresy (1990) pp.75-159.
