Description
Collection of questionnaires to ascertain death or whereabouts of missing persons, declarations by witnesses and “Kethav Heter” - official “Permit” documents, issued by the “Extraordinary Beth Din” for Takanoth Agunoth of the Central Orthodox Community of Hungary
summary
Beyond the enormous loss of life, the Holocaust left those who survived with overwhelming difficulties in re-establishing their lives. The present documents testify how the halachic process attempted to assist many with excruciating difficulties in regard to personal status. By seeking to gather eye-witness accounts of those killed or led away, ascertaining probable death was vital for the surviving family-member to continue.
These documents formed the basis for the “release” of both husbands and wives permitting them to remarry
