ANCIENT STONE FLINT BLADES

Publication

Egypt

summary

The Torah (Shemoth 4:25) records that Zipporah (wife of Moshe) took a sharp stone (“Tzor”) and circumcised her son. In the Book of Joshua (5:2), God instructs Yehoshua to circumcise all Jews who were born during the forty years of wandering in the desert. The Hebrew term for these knives is: “Charvoth-Tzurim.” These are the ancient flint knives that the Torah is referring to. Provenance: Formerly in the collection of the American archaeologist Dr. Donald Brown (1908-2014).
