The Jews of Cochin had a long tradition of singing devotional hymns (piyyutim) and songs on festive occasions. Malayalam is the language found predominantly in the state of Kerala, located at the southern tip of India. Judeo-Malayalam, the only known Dravidian Jewish language, was spoken by the miniscule community of Cochini Jews, today practically extinct.
