Printed text: “Many thanks for your participation in the celebrations of my 80th birthday. May, 1936.” With inscription: “Your devoted friend, Freud. - I did not know you were in Palestine.” Framed, alongside portrait photograph.

Although the recipient is unnamed, clearly (s)he was a member of the circle of Jews who fled Nazi Germany for the safer shores of Palestine. Freud himself was forced to flee Nazism for London in early June, 1938. He was to die just 15 months later.
