This multifaceted collection contains a variety of Maskillic material including scholarly notes on the Piyutim of ibn Gabirol, articles on astronomy and astrology with the participation of Steinschneider, Shi’r, Yasha’r and Shada’l, plus a number of parodies: An anonymous contribution by Isaac Meir Dick, Masecheth Aniyuth ("Tractate Poverty"), satirizing the Russian Jews, especially usurers, matchmakers, cantors, Chassidic Rabbis and teachers (pp. 8-20). <<*>> Judah Leib Nathan, Zohar Chadash (parody on Zohar), decrying the innovations of Reform Judaism, the intermingling of the sexes during worship and the change of the Sabbath day from Saturday to Sunday, also the kabbalistic secrets of chess (pp. 21-25). <<*>> A poem by Shalom HaKohen attacking the Hamburg Temple (pp. 25-26)/ <<*>> A tribute to Sach’s mentor, Isaac Erter of Brody citing his attacks on the “madness” of Chassiduth (pp. 33-36).
