Seder Hagadah shel Pesach. Service for the Two First Nights of the Passover.
New York: J. M. Jackson 1850
Est: $5,000 - $7,000
PRICE REALIZED $5,000
This Hagadah, noted on the title-page “Second American Edition,” is, in a sense, the first. - For the first edition that was printed in New York in 1837 by Solomon Henry Jackson states that it was “Translated into English by the late David Levy of London.” The present 1850 edition, published by Solomon Henry Jackson’s son, John M. Jackson, has no attribution to a foreign translator and is thus a “pure” American edition.
Interestingly, in the passage of the Four Sons (p. 11), the question of the wise son has a variant reading of Othanu (“us”) rather than Ethchem (“you.”).
