Purporting to be a genteel table-game, players travel the route of the wandering Jew, in 63 spaces, from Jerusalem to Paris. Throughout, there is an unmistakable mocking inference in its tone toward the Jews. A variant of the 16th century “Game of the Goose” this Dutch game “De Wandelende Jood,” is based on Eugene Sue’s wildly popular serially published novel (1844–45). The author himself, is depicted in the lower left corner.
