Isaac Lumbroso (d. 1752) served as chief rabbi of Tunis. In the aftermath of the schism dividing the Jews of the city into two factions - native Tunisians and Gournis, or Italians - Lumbroso was appointed rabbinic judge of the latter. Lumbroso was one of the finest students of R. Tzemach Sarfati and his reputation as Talmudist survives to the present. See JE, vol. VIII, pp. 153-4. <<THE FIRST BOOK PRINTED IN TUNISIA.>> According to Vinograd, the first of only three Hebrew books printed in this capital city.
