Salomon Bernstein (1886-1968) studied art in Vilnius, Odessa and later at École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts, Pin aris. He immigrated to Eretz Israel in 1914 and studied at the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design. In 1920 he was one of the founders of the Hebrew Artists’ Association. The consignor relates that this painting was exhibited at the 16th Zionist Congress in Zurich, 1929 and purchased by her grandfather, Rabbi Saul Silber (1880-1946) of Chicago.
