<<Uncommon edition. >> The Rashbam, Samuel ben Meir (c. 1085 – c. 1158), was a leading French Tosafist and grandson of Rashi. His Torah commentary, here published for the first time, was was based on a manuscript owned by R. David Oppenheim of Prague that originated in the Old Synagogue of Worms. The extensive marginalia in this copy contain references to various Midrashim, early commentaries and other works. A note on the front endpaper states that variant texts included here were copied from Hebrew Manuscript no. 32 from the Stadtbibliothek, Hamburg. According to the introduction, the publisher, R. Joseph Darshan of Premishla (author of Kethoneth Passim, Chaluka Derabanan, etc.) died amidst publication, yet his widow ensured that production of this important work was nonetheless completed.
