An innovative halachic opinion allowed for the use of automatic elevators on the Sabbath that were to be installed in housing projects in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Rabbi Henkin thanks the director of the New York City Housing Authority, Norman Parnass for arranging for the installation of these elevators. An interesting correspondence reflective of the tolerance New York City government displayed for its Orthodox Jewish citizenry.
