According to the introduction, these speeches were given in the presence of the Chief Rabbi. The name of the groom is unknown (although his bride was one “Esther”); he laments the death of his father but trusts his “holy spirit” is present. He thanks his mother who selected for him teachers “under the guidance of our much respected, beloved friend the Rav.” In the Hebrew address the groom states that even though the custom in England is not to speak publicly about Torah and the fear of God, he begs to differ on this important day of his life. An interesting manuscript. Displays of pious and learned Jewish practice were uncommon in early 19th-century England.
