In his celebrated Liber Chronicarum, Hartmann Schedel (1440-1514), a German humanist and historian, divided world history into six ages, from Creation until the present. The book owes its extreme popularity to the fine woodcuts by the artists, Michael Wolgemuth and Wiliam Preydenwurff.
