At top, the Biblical verse: "I bore you on the wings of eagles" and directly below looms large an American eagle with wings extended to full span. Below that, runs a banner, upon which is emblazoned the name of the Synagogue Fraternal Society, under which are the names of the members. Edgemere is a neighborhood in the New York City borough of Queens, on the Rockaway Peninsula. Before massive urban renewal projects precipitated the demolition of vast swaths of the area, the Rabbi of the congregation was Charles B. Chavel, known for his masterful edition of Nachmanides' commentary to the Pentateuch.
