The invitation itself is dated the Ninth of Av; the ceremony to take place the Fifteenth of Av. While the first date is one of national mourning, the second date is traditionally one of national jubilation. Evidently, the Zionist Commission responsible for the event played upon this symbolism, viewing the founding of Hebrew University as a step toward national redemption.
