Horeb was published shortly before Rabbiner Hirsch turned thirty years of age. In time, it grew to become the most celebrated of his works and most certainly established the Author’s reputation as an insightful and original Jewish thinker. Here, Hirsch set down his unique system of ta'amei ha-mitzvoth (rationales of the commandments) noting numerous sources culled from a wide range of Rabbinic literature. See E.M. Klugman, Rabbi Samson Raphael Hirsch (1996) pp. 67-72.
