Generations of the Chazan family served as scholars and Rabbis to the Jews of Turkey. The Author's father, Yoseph Chazan composed Ein Yehoseph (1735); the author's son wrote Chozeh David and his grandson, the multi-volumed Chikrei Lev. The author himself was also a charitable emissary on behalf of the Jews of Jerusalem and it was while travelling in this capacity he died prematurely and was subsequently buried in the town of Mir, Lithuania in 1712.
