Moses Alsheich (d. after 1593), a native of Adrianople, Turkey, settled in Safed, where he was was ordained by R. Joseph Karo (upon whom had been conferred the reintroduced Semicha of R. Jacob Berab). R. Alsheich’s commentaries to the Bible were greatly esteemed, a result of which, he was referred to as "Alsheich HaKadosh" (the Holy Alsheich). See EJ, Vol. II cols. 757-8.
