The Star of David was a newpaper for American-Jewish servicemen based in the Pacific Theater. Initially stationed in New Guinea, following the surrender of Japan on August 14th, 1945, American troops were redeployed to Japan. Many of the articles in this short-lived publication were written by Hugo Mantel the Jewish chaplain attached to the troops. Much of the news focuses upon the situation found in Europe's Jewish DP camps and on the struggle for Jewish independence in Palestine
