Japhet (1818-92) became part of the spiritual treasury of many Orthodox German congregations" See E.M. Klugman, Rabbi Samson Raphael Hirsch [A Biography] (1996) pp. 305-306
On the subject of the choir and other customs in German synagogues, see many of the essays of Rabbi Dr. Joseph Breuer, A Time to Builld (1995), especially pp. 18-20 and 40-45
