R. Isaac bar Sheshet Perfet (1326-1408) was a Spanish luminary who fled Valencia in the wave of the persecution of 1391 and settled in Algiers. His responsa, one of the pillars upon which Joseph Karo’s Shulchan Aruch later rested, are an invaluable source of historical information concerning the Jews of Spain and North Africa in the 14th century.
