This petite prayer book issued by the Sephardic community of Amsterdam, offers a heavenly plea on behalf of the “great and powerful burgomasters of Holland and West Vriesland,” as well as Prince William Charles Henry Friso of Orange and Nassau (William IV). In 1747, during the War of the Austrian Succession, France invaded Holland and defeated an allied British force in the Battle of Lauffeld near Maastricht. See Gans, Memorbook (1977), p. 179
