R. Tzvi Hirsch Spira (1850-1913), a descendant of R. Tzvi Elimelech Spira of Dynow (author of Benei Issachar), was a renowned halachist and kabbalist. R. Tzvi Hirsch's father was R. Shlomo Spira (1831-1893), founder of the Munkacz dynasty of Chasidism. R. Tzvi Hirsch authored the compendium Darchei Teshuvah on Shulchan Aruch, Yoreh De'ah, and a commentary to the Tikunei Zohar, entitled Be'er Lachai Ro'i. He was succeeded as Rabbi of Munkatcz by his son R. Chaim Elazar Spira (1872-1937), author Responsa Minchath Elazar. The latter's grandson R. Moshe Yehudah Leib Rabinowitz, the present Munkatcher Rebbe, resides in the Boro Park section of Brooklyn. See Tz.M. Rabinowicz, The Encyclopedia of Hasidism (1996), pp. 450-451
