A set of the celebrated Vilna Shas presented by Yisroel Yoseph Bernstein, to his son, the icon of 20th-century American music, Maestro Leonard (Eliezer) Bernstein Leonard Bernstein (1918-90) was the first conductor born and educated in the United States to receive universal acclaim. He was certainly one of the most influential figures in the history of American classical music, championing the works of American composers and inspiring the careers of a generation of American musicians. Retained by Bernstein for decades in his home in the Dakota Apartments, New York City, this set of the Talmud reflect the very close identification he maintained with his Jewish and family heritage.
