A native of Spain, Ibn Shuaib lived in Saragossa shortly before the expulsion in 1492. His rebukes of the Marranosresulted in bringing many of them back to their Jewish faith. Ibn Shuaib’s collected sermons reveal an extensive knowledge of rabbinics as well as a broader general culture. The present work also provides an interesting description of the organization of sacred societies for communal needs in Saragossa. See EJ, Vol. IX, col.1201.
