It was this Act of Parliament during the reign of Queen Victoria that finally enabled Lord Lionel Rothschild to take his seat in Parliament, the first Jew to be priviliged thus. It was necessary to substitute an alternative version of the long-standing Parliamentary oath which would omit the phrase "upon the true Faith of a Christian." See T.M.
