Collection of 39 broadsides

Jerusalem, Early 20th-century:

Est: $2,000 - $3,000
These broadsides are a wonderful cross-section of contemporary life in the very dynamic society of Eretz Israel under Ottoman and later British rule. There are bulletins of various cultural events and political rallies, a rabbinical pronouncement concerning kashruth arrangements in Jerusalem’s abattoirs, and the announcement of a guest sermon by visiting Rabbi Dov Ber Abramowitz of St. Louis, MO (1920). Of especial interest is the call to electors to participate in the “Chareidi Ballot.” Signed by Chief Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak Kook, this was a special arrangement that satisfied Orthodox sensibilities of the day, that women not participate in elections
